Versatile hosting plans with excellent customer service

Not beginner-friendly at all

Media Temple is a versatile premium hosting brand that will appeal to site owners, agencies and developers.

Their shared hosting is unique and better than some discount VPS plans on the market, while the dedicated servers are only for the hardcore webmasters out there.

This host appeals to those who are tired of dealing with discount companies. If you’ve had a shared plan that is hitting its cap, or has tons of downtime—it may be time to switch things up.

Media Temple has been in the game a long time.

Starting out in ’98 makes them one of the longest running hosting platforms online. In that time, they’ve never gone soft and continue to offer one of the best premium experiences for anyone who wants their stuff on the Internet.

The range of plans offered are truly unique and worthwhile. Finding a fit for all of your projects will be easy and it’s inexpensive (relatively speaking).

Users are allowed up to 100 websites and 1TB of bandwidth with the basic shared plan. There is also 20GB of SSD storage for your files in state-of-the-art facilities.

Plans get better from there and seem to appeal to a large variety of webmasters looking for premium services.

Are you a site-owner who wants a premium and affordable shared plan that can handle a ton of traffic? There’s a plan for you.

How about an agency that’s on a budget, but needs resources to impress their clients with powerful websites? Yep, there is a plan that can fit all of your projects and it’s inexpensive (again, relatively speaking).

Site owners that want a premium, yet affordable shared plan that handles massive traffic levels. It's available.

The company boasts from their site that, "From the simplest personal project to the biggest business site, we have a hosting platform that fits you perfectly."

After choosing a plan, you have to build a site.

To help DIY site builders, there is VIRB.

It's a quick, easy-to-use tool that promises to help you build an original and attractive site within a few hours of tinkering.

Templates (or themes) are used to give you a base structure for your site and to generate ideas. All themes are responsive, meaning they'll look good on a smartphone, tablet and desktop screens.

Choose a theme and adjust it drag-and-drop style until it's just the way you like it. The builder will help make a decent looking site, but it's not a pro tool. There is a small monthly fee to use it, too.

Enterprise solutions at Media Temple are nice.

Big businesses would have some good company by choosing this host. IBM (people who know how the internet works), HBO (the people who put out Game of Thrones), and Microsoft (no anecdote necessary) all trust Media Temple to host web pages.

The quality and variety of services help them attract their all star list of clients. High-traffic, high-profile WordPress (WP) site, VPS, cloud, and dedicated are all available and powerful enough to handle enterprise needs.

Engineers also help you optimize your new site for maximum performance and monitor it to make sure it stays online.

There are WP specific plans, but they aren't as good as you'd expect when comparing them to other premium hosts (like WPEngine).

Dedicated servers are available, but the price is honestly shocking. With other hosts charging a few hundred bucks, Media Temple charges many times that for the equipment and service.

It could be worth it, especially if your company is in the Fortune 500.

The customer support is phenomenal. 24/7/365 and based in the U.S.A.

The company's site claims that 90% of their staff spend their time directly helping clients. At first, this may seem like everything is on fire at Media Temple HQ.

However, there are just more support staffers than your average hosting company.

More reps means overall less wait time for users when they have an issue. The support crew are available by phone, email, chat and even Twitter. The social element really helps boost interaction and response speed.

The free support is so good and Enterprise clients get access to mtONE, a specialized service option for the big leagues.

It's surprising, but Media Temple isn't overly friendly in terms of speed.

Keep in mind that the equipment they use is top-quality and helps speed. The resources given in their plans will help speed. Quality hosting will always run better than most budget options.

The lack comes from no content delivery network (CDN), or other features that are meant to improve speed.

Upper level plans (e.g. dedicated, enterprise) are a bit of a different story.

Engineers help optimize your site for speed and the servers are managed to keep them up to date and speedy.

Media Temple has some great uptime and guarantees your files to be up 99.999% of the time.

In the event your site is down, you'll receive a 20% discount for every 20 minutes of downtime. Don't expect too many discounts, the host really does a good job in this area.
